Given the considerable amount of advertising dollars that are spent to encourage golfers to put new clubs into their bags every year, I always wonder why more corporate dollars are not spent to encourage golfers to actually buy the one device that will actually help them post lower scores: golf range finders. Golf rangefinders are typically priced between $200 and $400, about the same price range as new drivers made by Titleist, Cleveland, and TaylorMade. Is there less revenue to be made by merchandisers for selling one Bushnell Rangefinder versus one TaylorMade Driver? Probably. But good marketing campaigns can effectively change what we as consumers feel is and isn’t important. Avid golfers are always competing with their friends to stay ahead of the curve by purchasing the latest golf equipment. How many times have members of regular foursomes used another member’s new driver and then after just three or four swings went out and bought the same exact club? It happens all the time. The entire Golf industry counts on this kind of viral marketing to sell more and more clubs. However, why don’t rangefinder manufacturers like Bushnell and Leupold employ a similar philosophy or strategy? This article compares the golf rangefinders’ impact on a golfer’s scoring average (USGA handi-cap) to the scoring impact that more popular golfing equipment has. It also suggests some marketing angles and hooks that manufacturers could employ to make them more mainstream.Rangefinders versus the latest Driver.

If the swing is kept nice and relaxed, your club will stay on the proper swing path, and your swing will have much more rhythm. If you have a problem with trying to kill the ball, step up to the tee box, and think “nice easy swing.” Also, it may help to take a three-quarters length swing. On the takeaway, only go back three-quarters as far as you normally would. 2.)“Scooping” the ballWhen hitting iron and chip shots, you may think that in order for the ball to go in the air, the club must hit up on the ball. Many beginners attempt to help the ball in the air by “scooping” it. In reality, hitting DOWN on the ball, not up, is what actually carries the ball into the air. The loft of the clubface will do this for you, if you just hit down on the ball. In order to hit down on it, your hands should be ahead of the clubface when contact is made with the ball. The club should also hit the ball first, and the ground second.3.)“Going for it”Imagine, you are on a par 5. You hit a nice drive straight down the middle. You are 200 yards from the green, but there is a pond surrounding the green. You can SOMETIMES hit an accurate shot 200 yards. What do you do? Lay-up, or go for it?Beginner golfers lose so many strokes when trying to “go for it.” It is so tempting. “If I make it on the green, I’ll have an eagle putt!” But that’s being greedy. The smart choice to make, if you are not confident in hitting the green, is to lay up! In the situation I just described, if you lay up and hit the green on your 3rd shot, there is still a good chance for a birdie, and an even greater chance for a par. Don’t get greedy; play it safe, because there is nothing wrong with a par.

Why has golf become so popular? It is the opportunityto be outside, to get a good whole body workout, network with friends or business colleagues at aleisurely pace, and to play a game that you can neverperfect.Your scorecard, over time, shows your improvement, which keeps you playing again and again. Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person whohas no clue about the game.Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course; each holehas its "par", which is the number of tee shots(drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as youapproach the green), and putts. The par number is based on the length and difficultyof the hole. Pars range from 3 to 6. If you get theball in the hole in five shots on a par five hole, you"made par." If it took you six shots, it is called abogie, if you made it in four, it is a birdie. There are usually "hazards" of some sort on all theholes. Bodies of water, sand traps, and trees arestrategically placed to make the hole morechallenging. Beginner golfers should seek to findcourses to play that are easier to play, with fewerhazards. Each player keeps their own score, marking the numberof total number of shots for each hole. At the end, each person adds their scores, the lowest number is thewinner. It is important for beginner golfers to not takethemselves too seriously. It takes a long time to getgood at this game; even though the professionals makeit look so easy.Take a lesson or two at the onset; it will help youdevelop a proper swing and help you get off to a goodstart.Remember that it is just a game. Have fun and look atthe big picture, you are outside and you are not at work!If you want to know more visit my blog.

Whether it is for a junior tournament or a country club sponsored tournament, crystal golf awards may be the highlight of the show. While some events may choose trophies and awards that have already been designed, some events deserve a design of their own. For those special awards, multiple companies specialize in not only creating the crystal awards but also helping design them to be perfect for that special occasion or event. While not every country club or golf tournament has a creative team, makers of custom crystal trophies may well have a full staff dedicated to creating designs to meet the specifications of those who order these one of a kind trophies. While crystal is beautiful in almost every design, the custom made crystal trophy has a mystique to it that makes it even more attractive. Though it may be priced somewhat higher the unique crystal award can be well worth the time and money with the impression it makes. It is easy to visualize other more unique uses for a crystal award than the traditional golf tournament trophy. These beautifully designed and made trophies are so diverse in styling they may not even resemble trophies and might be given as a wedding anniversary gift with the name of the couple engraved upon the surface. A crystal award which is in the form of a plaque or a modern sculpture easily makes the transition from golf trophy to going away memento or employee recognition plaque. While a heavy and ornate crystal trophy might not work for a young teen golf award winner, etched acrylic may be substituted and have beauty but a great deal more durability. There is a type of crystal trophy to suit almost every occasion and taste. A glittering crystal cup with a flat surface for engraving may well fit well into almost any occasion. While crystal is elegant and versatile it is not hard to find and there are online and traditional brick and mortar stores that can provide a huge array of crystal trophies in almost any style wanted. Traditional golf awards might be preferred but the shopper is not limited to the traditional with crystal. This beautiful trophy material might be as mundane or as elegant as the shopper desires.Parents might give a sports minded child a trophy to commemorate an outstanding scholastic achievement. A gift of a crystal award suitably engraved for the boss on that special boss day can be a huge hit especially of they too love the game of golf. Retirement parties and that special employee may light up when the retiree is given his award for earning the time to enjoy their favorite sport, golf. While almost any achievement in life can be an occasion for a trophy, an achievement rewarded with a crystal trophy may be the most memorable of all. A golf award ceremony is all about honoring the winners and a crystal trophy may make the event sparkle even more. Whatever the budget of the awards committee or the organization, there is almost surely a trophy that can meet their needs and do it in style.

Along with Donald and Westwood, also missing the cut last week were Matt Kuchar (No. 6), Graeme McDowell (No. 9) and Nick Watney (No. 10). The best performance from top-10 players came from Martin Kaymer (No. 3) and Steve Stricker (No. 5), who tied for 12th. Caddies keep changing jobs this year, whether temporary or permanent, but the one with the best fortune might be John Mulrooney. He was on the bag for Darren Clarke at the British Open, but what’s amazing is how he got there. Clarke had lined up Ricci Roberts, who won all three majors with Ernie Els, to be his caddie in Spain the week of The Players Championship. Roberts decided instead to go to Florida to watch Els get inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Mulrooney, meanwhile, was in Spain to caddie for David Howell, but the former Ryder Cup star got injured. Mulrooney then was to work that week for Maarten Lafeber until he got injured. He wound up with Clarke, who went on to win the Iberdola Open. “He’s a little bit different, a little bit quiet, but a very, very good caddie,” Clarke said. “He’s worked on some proper bags before. We went out that week and won, and then it was a case of having to call Ricci and saying, ‘I’m sorry, but I’ve just won with John, so with your permission I’d like to carry on with him.’ So Ricci was fine. I carried on with John, and he’s been very good for me.”
